The Travelling Foodies have always enjoyed local produce and wine…..but what is emerging during these challenging times is the ability to purchase locally grown or sourced pork..even better matched with some of the local fare.

Limestone Pork is a quiet achiever, their APIQ certified major award-winning certified free-range piggies are homegrown in Murrindindi at Yea, throughout Victoria and beyond.

Owners Glenn and Paula’s mantra is ‘our farming is ethical, sustainable and professional.”

Indeed, all their partner growers and butchers are on the same page.. such as Little Creek Cattle Company…you can source their products as well as the multi-award-winning free-range pigs at their butcher shop in North Gateway in Coldstream.

But what about us here locally?

Well, Limestone Pork in now in the local market and accessible via packs delivered to your door.

We could not wait to be part of the uptake of this new service here in Murrindindi.
So…we ordered…..one of their new mixed packs….

Exciting getting local grown pork delivered to your door.
You can order online via their website and or by contacting Glenn directly.

Opening the box in the kitchen we are greeted with 2 packets of sausages, a decent-sized pork shoulder, a rolled pork roast, and two packs of mince.
We start thinking about what will go in the freezer and what we will try first…

We started with the boned/rolled pork shoulder, at $50 (if you wanted it separately) for the 1.9 kg for it may be considered pricy on its own……
BUT we considered it excellent value.

We did look twice at the label to read 100% Product of Australia, Made from 100% Australian ingredients
We were a little chuffed by that…nice to know where your meat comes from – that whole support local buy local eat local theme…

Could not wait to taste Paula’s and Glenn’s Limestone Pork……. Glenn explained ‘their nutritiously balanced feed is continually refined and derived from all-vegetable protein, much of which is estate grown, harvested and milled on-site. This provides consistent flavour whatever the cut.’

Maintaining the quality and consistency of the taste has been forefront in Glenn’s mind since the inception of Limestone Pork some ten years ago. With a background in hospitality, he understands the need for both.

Long term clients, such as Gamze Smokehouse, Little Creek Cattle Company, The Meatroom, and the Smokehouse get it, that’s why the business has grown steadily.

Now back to that shoulder…..

The plan is slow cook it to perfection as bbq pulled pork. By doing it this way we can get a few meals out of it.
The first meal to be done is pulled pork pizza.

So into the slow cooker for the whole day with veggies from the fridge. BBQ sauce poured over the pork and its net bag left on.

Once drained from the slow cooker and allowed to cool to be shred with two forks the juices from the slow cooker were reserved and reduced to make a gravy for another meal.

Using Gf bases and pita bread for those who like the crispy base we loaded them up after the kitchen smelling divine all day….

A sprinkling of loosely diced and chopped red onion, a few paddock mushrooms, and a few sneaky Thornton Cabana slices on top we were ready in 10 minutes to taste the pizza.

We thought about basil etc…but we wanted to savor T H E   P O R K

Tfs pulled limestone pork pizza

It was worth the wait..

Delish… With mixed green salad from the garden, it was a great feast on a balmy Autumn night.

We got to think about the next evening’s meal, really wanting comfort food….temps starting to drop..
Next, the slow-cooked pork was set up in the original juice and allowed to thicken.

Over homemade fettuccine….with toasted local sourdough from Wildcrust Bakery.
The result?? You need not ask..

nothing was left….

Next will be a shepherd’s pie with the leftovers…

We will simply add some frozen veg to the meat and gravy made from the leftover juices, cover with mashed potatoes from Dobson’s, and grated Yea Cheddar Cheese and whamo…after 40 odd minutes in the oven the Pork will be devoured.
A local Murrindindi Winemakers wine was argued over….to match….what do you think we chose? only 6 wineries…to choose from..

The sausages were also sampled…neat packs of four.

Simply grilled and added to veggies….and salad…divine…and tasty…
The texture was just right and they were popular.
